Dot Origin loves a challenge
Having spent the last 20-odd years selling, supporting and developing for other people’s contactless and NFC readers, when it came to meeting customer requirements for new mobile interactions, we ended up starting from scratch and built our own.
It was a brave and possibly foolish ambition to develop a mobile wallet reader platform that could universally support so many different cards, tags and digital credentials and connect to so many different host systems – from PCs and PoS systems to door access and cloud platforms. But we achieved it and have successfully deployed many thousands of readers that are now being tapped by many millions of people all over the world.
Our simple, swift, secure NFC wallet reader vision
Mobile wallet is just getting started and our VTAP NFC ‘just tap’ experience, with the help of Apple and Google, is simple, swift and secure to configure, deploy and use. From access control to membership check-in, retail loyalty to cashless payment and sports ticketing to health ID, our readers can do it all.
So, after many years of hard work with our fantastic customers and partners, we seem to have created the best NFC reader in town!
Many RFID and NFC reader manufacturers have expanded their offerings through merging and acquiring different businesses and technology stacks over time, leading to inconsistencies across their hardware, firmware and software platforms. This leads to limitations, complexity and often disappointment. Our VTAP technology was built from the start as a universal platform that is constantly growing and evolving without losing its common core or ease of use.
Universal interactivity and connectivity
We can provide a mobile wallet NFC reader in any format – boxed to suit the environment, as an embedded board to be included in yours, as a module to be designed into your own product and even as firmware to run on your own hardware. It’s certified to read Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, Secure Element and Host Card Emulated digital IDs on mobile, as well as a whole range of physical MIFARE, DESFire and NFC Forum cards and tags. We support dynamic NFC tag emulation, Bluetooth beacons/GATT and IP-based management/comms as well as a complete implementation of OSDP over any serial interface, including secure remote management and firmware updates. Wow!
Our biggest challenge today is how to explain all this in a single slide! Our diagrams currently have too many boxes, arrows, clouds and components to make much sense to anyone other than fellow engineers. But we’re working on that one too, including the picture below:
So, thanks to all our customers and partner for the inspiration to do better, and please let us know if there is something extra you’d like to see our readers do. Or why not buy a reader and have a play?
